Seeing this display develop across the street from where I was stopped, it looked like it was about to get pretty physical. I was just about to get out and intervene, but not sure how; probably with a squeaky "Hey! Cut that out!" from the safety of the half opened car door...with the engine running...

Yeah, one of the highest rates of injuries to cops doing their duty occurs when they get in the middle of a "domestic dispute."
When you are a civilian, it's okay to pick your battles.
And, for better or worse, with the way our litigous society is it's usually more prudent for a civilian not to get too involved in other people's messes...
