Under Pressure

We fit a quick side trip to downtown Springfield into our evening errands, for a look at the damage done by a major water main break that had erupted in the north end early Wednesday morning. It was about 8:30 pm when we went by, and repair crews with heavy equipment were working diligently at the massive hole and rubble that was one of the busiest intersections in Springfield.

It looks like they were digging up the road in at least three different areas along Main Street including the big one smack in the middle of the intersection with Carew.

After a major water pressure drop that also affected many surrounding towns they quickly got the water system up and running again, but they're saying the huge repair project will probably take a week or so before it's done. That ought to cause major havoc as Main and Carew is an extremely busy intersection. It's an access point to an I-91 on-ramp, the entrance to the north end bridge that connects to West Springfield, and also the main way into Springfield's north end...

That's a lot of pressure...
