Football, You Bet!

This seemingly rainiest year ever continued it's trend on Saturday, dimming but not completely dampening the colors that are just beginning to burst.

Passing the Williston Northampton school, we saw there was a football game going on. Football is one of the few sports that can not only be played through, but is even better to watch in inclement weather...

We swung in to catch the last quarter.

I haven't been to see a live game in a long while, and had forgotten what a great game it is to watch; with all the color, drama, and action...

This game was Williston defending against Tabor Academy, and the score was 19-14, Williston...

I don't particularly follow local varsity football and was mostly impartial to either side, but still, I stood and watched from the visiting team's side for convenience sake. (It didn't matter, the rain fell just as hard from both sidelines.)

It was a pretty even quarter of football, with both sides defending well, and the score remaining the same as the clock wound down...

But in the final two minutes, Tabor staged a last ditch, do-or-die drive...throwing to the sidelines often to stop the clock.

Coaches and team worked feverishly to come up with plays that would get them down field, and quick.

They had come a long way to go home empty-handed.

Tabor struggled to the 50 yard line, and by then only a few seconds remained on the clock. There was time for only one more play... As a last ditch effort, the quarterback faked a pass, instead holding on to the ball and dashing down field himself, with Williston in hot pursuit...

He made it to the 40...

...the 30....

...25...

He. Might. Go. All. The...

...eh, nope...

The quarterback was slammed to the wet turf as the clock ran out...it was over.

Tabor was vanquished and victorious Williston broke out in celebration and congratulation...

Both teams did that traditional line up and shake hands thing...

Then the defeated, limped home.
