Mower's High

Happy July...

I was mowing the grass late this afternoon; push one way...swing around, back the other way...Wiping the brow, and plucking at the sticky shirt in the humid air. Trying to keep the mower straight, while keeping one edge just over that almost indiscernable line the wheels had left on the previous pass...body on autopilot and the mind slipping into the dreamlike state that takes hold whenever something repetitive like mowing is being done. Mowing is always a good time to think, and reflect, and sort out the odd thoughts you've been meaning to sort out, but never really seem to have the time too, during the busy day...

I was deep in a trance like this, and pressing forward instinctively, hurrying to beat the growing twighlight. Insulated by the roar of the mower, and the heat, and the dust and grass being kicked up, the world seems to fall away, leaving only some small part of the brain at the controls, focused on the singular job of following the previous line of cut grass, as the rest of the brain ponders bigger themes...

But then, glancing up for a second, my thoughts suddenly snapped back to attention...

Wow. July has arrived, again...

Almost missed it...

Fantastic sunset. Are they particularly good in July, do you know?

I don't think there's any real correlation, though I've seen some doozies mid-summer...but it just gave me pause; geez, to think we're halfway through the summer already...

Ahhh, one of my favorite things to do, mowing and working in the yard. Very cool.

Nice set of photos; did you take these last night? I know the sun popped out briefly here before sunset.
