Moonshine

The nights continue to lengthen until the winter solstice, and calendar 'winter', arrives about a week from now. From that longest of nights the slow trod out of the darkness can begin; eventually leading us back into another glorious Spring...

In the meantime though, the Full Wolf Moon is here again; blazing in the crystal clear night sky and taking a bit of the edge off of the gloom...Luckily, it also provided some light for a little night-picture taking, from the frigid hilltop of Mt. Pollux in Amherst.

The freshly ice-coated trees atop Mt. Norwottuck in the distance reflect a shiny silver moonlit sheen.

Hopefully the woods will still be icy on Saturday, and provide some dazzling scenes in the forecast sunshine...

My hometown and most of the southern end of the valley managed to escape yesterday's massive ice storm, and was instead inundated with rain for about 24 straight hours. Flooding was rampant. Pretty much everywhere to the north of us though, the temps dropped just a couple of degrees, and that's all it took for an entirely different experience.

The sky cleared and tonight the Full Wolf Moon shares the heavens with Orion the Hunter. The two proudly hover high above and see a cold quiet earth through the night...

Ok, can't feel my fingers...time to go...
